Primary Punchbowl Fall Blog Hop

I love this time of the year. It is honestly my favorite time of the year to teach. There are so many fun hands-on activities that students can do in the classroom. My students always love our Pumpkin Unit. We spend a week learning all things pumpkin. One of their favorite things we do is this interactive pumpkin book during math and science. For math, students will work in small groups to investigate their pumpkins. Each group has their own pumpkin and will have a different activity each day. For science, students will learn about the life cycle of a pumpkin, parts of a pumpkin, and several other activities. They will finish the week with a pumpkin taste test, which is always a crowd favorite.

Halloween is the beginning of the holiday season, my most favorite time of the year. One thing we did at my school was "You've Been BOOed!" This is such a fun way to spread some holiday cheer and get faculty and staff at your school involved; a great way to encourage community. Everyone seemed to love this and even the kids would get into it.

So here is how it works...
You have a few staff be the 'lucky ones' that will get the chain going. These people will put together a Halloween treat of some sort, along with printing out the necessary papers to inform the chosen ones how it works. The teachers that have been BOOed will place this paper on the outside of their classroom door so that everyone knows that they have been selected (and they do not keep getting chosen). They will then have a couple of days to put together a gift and pick someone to BOO! Before you know it everyone has been BOOed and received a special little something from a coworker.

LaborLESS Blog Hop

Hello everyone!

ARE YOU REAAADDDY!!!
Main Graphic Laborless

It is Finally here!

Today I am linking with Laura from Where the Magic Happens, Krista from Teaching Momster, and Lisa from PAWsitively Teaching! I have joined forces once again with my bloggy friends to bring you the best, most amazing giveaway on this Labor Day weekend!

All of us have been thinking about  good ways in which to treat our readers and followers. We thought hard, and I mean it! Really, really hard… and decided that we can treat you to our best ideas to work smarter rather than harder… at school and home!

I know what it takes to be a great teacher, the stress, the time, the energy… I could go on and on! I also know that we crave time to ourselves and our families.

So here I go!
Slide1
When I was teaching kindergarten I had 3-4 students at a large table. Because of this they were unable to store any of their books, notebooks, folders, etc. at their desk. Every time they needed some sort of material they had to leave their desk to retrieve the said item. This seemed to disrupt learning every time. During the summer after my first year, I decided to have some chair covers made. I bought some affordable fabric, took that and a classroom chair, and a picture of what I wanted to a seamstress. She sewed a class set of chair covers for me and this simple thing made my classroom run so much more smoothly (and it helped bring a pop of color to my room). I could not recommend this investment enough. It made retrieving items so much easier and less chaotic.

Slide2
I find it so difficult to relax at home. My list is always there in my head or on my phone and I am not a fan of leaving things to be done. I have to force myself to turn everything off and just relax. The first thing I always do when I get home is put on some pajamas. I would live in pajamas if it were socially acceptable. Once the kids are asleep, I tend to pour a nice glass of wine and watch some trash TV for a little bit. This allows me to turn my brain off and get lost in whatever it is that I am watching. I also really enjoy reading, if I can manage to stay up late enough. I have not been able to read as much since having my girls, but I look forward to the day I can get lost in books again.

Slide3
This Interactive Science Notebook will be a lifesaver if you teacher K-2. There are over forty topics covered, each with at least one page of hands-on activities for your students to do in small group, whole group, or independently, depending on the grade level. There are two options: one full page and two per page (that can cut down on paper and fit perfectly into a composition notebook).

Here are some pictures of this product in action.

Winner Wednesday: Five Senses

Winner Wednesday Header
It is time for the third round of Winner Wednesday. This linky will take place the first Wednesday of every month. I will pick a popular product from my store and explain it in detail, with pictures. The best part of it all is that YOU will have a chance to win that product for FREE. All you will have to do is enter your name to be entered into the Rafflecopter.  I was so honored that so many people participated last month. There were some amazing products that TpTers were giving away and I am so excited to see who links-up today.

This month I decided that it would be a perfect time to choose my Five Senses Unit for the product.  This pack contains one week of hands-on science activities and lessons to do with your kindergarten or first students.
winner wednesday 8.5

Sound

You will be able to put together four sound shakers for your students to guess what is inside.
Picture1
This is what the sound shakers looked like once they are put together.
Picture11
At the front of the room you will have the four sound shaker labels up on the white board. As your students guess what is in each shaker, you will place the picture below the shaker.
Picture9
Afterwards, there is a worksheet that can go inside their interactive science journal.

Touch

You will be able to put together bags filled with various objects for students to guess what it is that they feel. Here is an example of two of the bags.
Picture10
This is what they look like when they are all put together.
Picture2
For this activity I typically blindfold my students with a bandanna. They love it and it keeps them from looking inside the bags. Like with the other activities, I have large label cards at the front of the room. As students guess what they think they are feeling inside the bag, I place those pictures underneath the given label card. Once all bags have been accounted for, we will check their answers accordingly.

Afterwards, there is a worksheet that can go inside their interactive science journal.

Smell

For smell I start by putting together these jars. I bought the jars from Dollar Spot in Target, but you can also purchase some affordable jars on Amazon by clicking {here}. I put paper in the jar to hide what object I am placing inside so that the students will be required to use only their senses to guess what is inside.
Picture6
Here is the finished product showing what the jars will look like once they are put together.
Picture5
Similar to the other senses, you will have large pictures labeled for each jar. As students guess what they smell, you will place the pictures underneath the given jar.
Picture8
Afterwards, there is a worksheet that can go inside their interactive science journal.

Taste

This activity is always fun because kids LOVE when they eat in the classroom. I always give each student a small piece of all four food items listed on a paper plate. You can do this next part as a class, in small groups, or individually. They will taste the different foods and decide which one is bitter, sweet, sour, or salty.

Afterwards, there is a worksheet that can go inside their interactive science journal.

The Real Housewives of TpT Vegas Meet-Up

Last week at the Teachers Pay Teachers conference, I cohosted a Real Housewives of TpT Vegas Meet-Up with my blogging buddies Elissa and Sara. When we were originally planning this meet-up we envisioned having lunch with maybe ten to fifteen other women. Little did we know that this would turn out to be something so much bigger; we had 71 people attend our event. Our goal in holding this event was to create a community for women that are no longer in the classroom and that now juggle their time being a mom and doing TpT Full-Time.

Elissa and I had previously read Moms Mean Business by Lara Galloway. This book was instrumental in helping me better juggle motherhood and being a TpT entrepreneur. This can be so challenging and we really wanted to be able to provide everyone with this resource to help them on their journey. Lara was such a pleasure to work with and she even offered us the opportunity to skype live with everyone during the meet-up. I cannot begin to tell you how many people came up to us after the event so grateful for this opportunity. This quickly become the highlight of our meet-up. If you would like to purchase Lara’s book you can click {here}. We will be hosting a podcast book study with this book in the upcoming months. Lara also has several free podcasts on iTunes and Snitcher. Search for Lara Galloway or look at Mom Biz Coach.

We had some great donations and giveaways that helped to make this event such a success and I wanted to give everyone a quick shout out for their generosity.

Here is a picture of our giveaway table and swag bag table.

A Plus Images creates teacher shirts at a fantastic price. They are beyond supportive of the teaching community and I cannot recommend them enough when you are in need of a shirt for yourself or your classroom. Doug donated shirts for every single person that attended the event. In addition to that he also provided several giveaways. One lucky lady walked away with a set of classroom faces t-shirts valued at $200. To check out A Plus Images, you can click {here}.

Tailwind was a HUGE sponsor for this event. They gave us over $10,000 worth of prizes. If you are not using Tailwind yet, you need to check it out. This is a great tool for scheduling your pins on Pinterest. With the included analytics, you can target prime times when your followers are on Pinterest and schedule your pins days, weeks, or months in advance. Click {here} to sign up for Tailwind today.

You cannot have a meet-up for Full-Time TpTers without some AMAZING clipart, right?! Some of my absolute favorite clipartists were so generous for this event. So many women walked away with some great clipart, which is perfect timing since the back to school rush is about to start. A HUGE thank you to Whimsy Clips, Graphics from the Pond, Melonheadz, Educlips, and Teaching in the Tongass.

Yellow Bee Boutique donated their adorable pencil teacher nameplate for one lucky winner.

Apple of their Eye donated a couple of their adorable coffee mugs. I have been following these girls for months, patiently waiting for their Etsy store to launch. They are finally in business and that means you can finally have all of their adorable mugs. They made a Real Housewives of TpT mug just for the event. You can now purchase that mug {here}.

My friend, Amanda Vargas, sells Rodan and Fields. She got me hooked on their products several months back and now I am a loyal customer. She donated a ton of mini facials to accompany the giveaway bags and one lucky person got several of their most popular products for a giveaway. If you want to check out their products go to Amanda's website by clicking {here}.

Becky Higgins and the Project Life Team donated some of their products to one lucky winner. This person will be all ready to start their online scrapbooking journey.

Martha Moore donated adorable little Jamberry baggies for EVERY attendee. This was quite the feat, since we had 70+ people RSVP. You can check out her store by clicking {here}.

Melissa Chase also donated Jamberry items for the giveaway. You can find her store by clicking {here}.

Miss Squirrel's Shop donated several of her adorable coffee cozies that accompanied all of the giveaway bags. How cute are these?!

We have a few extra Real Housewives of TpT shirts leftover from the event and thought that maybe YOU would like to have one in your hands. Elissa, Sara, and I will each be giving one shirt away to a lucky winner. To enter for your chance to win this shirt complete the Rafflecopter below.
